Luxury Travel Agency, Chicago

When you’re searching for an agency to help with your trip planning, what are the most important qualities to look for? Expertise is an obvious one – a travel professional should know everything about your regions of interest, and from personal experience, not just the Internet. Connections are important – your advisor should be able to offer you value and unique experiences that you couldn’t find on your own. Of course, your advisor should take the time to understand the way you travel; when you leave your home in Chicago, what is it that you’re hoping to achieve on your journey?

At The Luxury Travel Agency, we tick all of these boxes – and many more besides.
We’ve built our reputation from our approach to travel, which is perfectionist by nature. Our team is made up of dedicated advisors whose passion for the travel experience is unsurpassed – a prerequisite for working at The Luxury Travel Agency!

It is this zest for seeing the world, and helping our clients do the same, that sets us apart from the competition. You can find travel agencies closer to home, who might offer you a decent-looking package…but anyone who truly loves travel knows that packages aren’t the way to go. We take the time to get to know you: the sights you want to see, the foods you want to try, and especially those experiences that you’ve always wanted to partake in, no matter how big or small they might be. When you work with The Luxury Travel Agency, you’ll feel that level of care there in Chicago, all the way from Toronto!

Once we know how you like to travel, we build a proposal from scratch, tailored exactly to your preferences: flights, hotels, guided tours, airport transfers, rental cars, restaurant bookings, private VIP experiences of all sorts – if you can think it, we can do it! Ever wanted to dine by candlelight in an ancient castle? We can arrange it. How about a sunset cruise to a private island in the South Pacific? We’ve made it happen. The only limit is your imagination.

Of course, we understand that sometimes, you just need a quick getaway from Chicago; maybe it’s a business trip, visiting friends, or a weekend with your partner for some much-needed relaxation. We’ll book your hotel for you, for the same rate or less, at zero additional cost; what’s more, our Partner Hotel network represents the best of the best in luxury accommodation, and booking any of these with The Luxury Travel Agency affords you a bundle of free benefits such as room upgrades, complimentary meals or spa treatments, hotel credits, and a host of others. When you look at the numbers, there’s no reason to book with anyone else!

When you’re ready to leave Chicago for your next journey into the great wide world, contact The Luxury Travel Agency, and we’ll show you a side to the travel world that you never knew existed!

Time for Thailand – 3 Lesser-Known Places to Explore

Everybody knows about Bangkok and Phuket, while Koh Samui has taken a star turn as the latest luxury hotspot in Thailand. But what about something new? If you want to beat your friends to the Next Big Thing, let The Luxury Travel Agency guide your plans with three of our favourites:

1) The Golden Triangle. In the far north of Thailand, there’s a point at which the country’s borders meet those of neighbouring Laos and Myanmar – hence the “Triangle”. This is a land of thick jungle forests and winding rivers, and all the incredible wildlife that live therein. The biggest draw – both literally and figuratively – are, of course, the Asian elephants that call the region home. Several ultra-luxury camps, such as those operated by Four Seasons and Anantara, care for groups of elephants that were neglected or abused by their previous owners and provide incredible education and interaction opportunities for their guests. These camps will bring you back to the Golden Age of Exploration – and with the nearby city of Chiang Rai only an hour’s flight from Bangkok, it’s easier to visit than you think!

2) Krabi Province. Directly east of Phuket, on the mainland, lies the province of Krabi, which offers a much more “authentic” experience of Thai life and culture with far less of the mass tourism. The surrounding jungle gives way to pristine white beaches, with solitary limestone karst formations (think Ha Long Bay) dotted throughout the sea. Railay Beach, popular among rock climbers and those who know their way around, can only be accessed by boat, providing an exclusive experience. At properties such as the Ritz-Carlton Phulay Bay, guests can find a blissful haven from the bustle of the islands, and connect with themselves, each other, and the natural splendour of their surroundings.

3) Pai. Long a staple on the backpacking route, the town of Pai has begun to evolve into a destination with something for everyone. Located about 2 ½ hours by car north of Chiang Mai (which is, as Thailand’s northern hub, a must for any visitor), Pai is home to a young crowd; the street food is plentiful, the parties run late, and enjoying the breathtaking location is everyone’s priority. If you’re looking to mingle with other travelers from the world over, this is the spot to do it. With a profusion of hills, caves, and waterfalls, there are endless opportunities to explore. And when night comes, the brilliant starlight shining over seas of rice paddies provides a backdrop for dreams of new adventures.

Thailand, the “Land of Smiles”, is a must for any traveler, and The Luxury Travel Agency can elevate your journey from lovely to life-changing. We’ve been up and down the country, and we’re ready to share our knowledge with you!

As winter winds down, the chill in the air remains, and makes those of us at The Luxury Travel Agency long for sandy white beaches, the warm glow of the sun on our skin, and to cast all our worries away.

Located on a private island situated a mere 70 minutes from Manila, Amanpulo Luxury Resort checks all those boxes and more! Amanpulo lays blissfully unaware of the outside world, in the middle of the Sulu Sea. It is aptly named Amanpulo, Aman, meaning peace and pulo meaning island. This luxury resort is the epitome of a tropical beach paradise that will soothe your mind, body, and soul. Known for its classically beautiful white sand beaches, Amanpulo offers nature, comfort, and privacy.

Amanpulo offers two “room” categories. Casitas and Villas.

Both the Casitas and Villas provide spectacular views of the ocean and are designed to be stylish and modern, but with traditional and cultural splashes.

Located on a secluded island, Amanpulo does not lack for food options. The luxury resort offers five dining venues ranging from Filipino, Mediterranean, Japanese, to international cuisine options. However, if you are looking for something a bit more exclusive, private, and intimate, Amanpulo can arrange a Beach BBQ. Sit directly on the beach, take in the beautiful sunset, and listen to the waves crash upon the shore. Enjoy an intimate dining experience with four different menu options or create a unique, customized menu that the chef will gladly prepare.

Amanpulo offers a variety of water activities ranging from kitesurfing and scuba diving to snorkelling and kayaking. Discoveries Down Under – 4 Australian Must-See Spots

Australia has been steadily rising on the list of desirable destinations over the past few years, and the reasons are as clear as the Great Barrier Reef’s waters. The ‘Land Down Under’ offers world-class quality across the board, from enchanting landscapes to a thriving culinary scene and beyond. Below, four of The Luxury Travel Agency’s must-see locales:

1) The Great Ocean Road. If you’re the type who loves getting out of the city to explore the natural world, this is a can’t-miss item on your bucket list. One of Earth’s great scenic drives, the Great Ocean Road (or GOR) winds along nearly 250 kilometres of Australia’s southern coast, with its eastern terminus just outside the city of Melbourne. Unending scenic views unfold before you, and your options are endless: indulge in artisanal cheese and ice cream, embark on treetop walks and ziplines, and even spot southern right whales with their babies just offshore! Don’t head for home without pictures at the 12 Apostles, a remarkable series of limestone stacks rising straight up from the ocean.

2) Byron Bay. Fans of the Thor films might spot the man behind the hammer – Chris Hemsworth – strolling the beaches of Byron Bay, where he and his family call home. Known throughout the country as a laid-back paradise, Australia’s easternmost town is all about enjoying the splendour around you: the beaches, the food, the arts, and more. A one-hour drive south from the Gold Coast Airport will get you there…leaving is a different question altogether!

3) Tasmania. While the Looney Tunes may have elevated the Tasmanian Devil to global consciousness, most travelers know little else about the island, which lies just off the southern coast of Australia, 80 minutes by plane from Melbourne. Its latitude and geography make for a wilderness experience like none other – almost a cross between Australia and New Zealand, with vast rugged spaces to explore. Several ultra-luxury lodges provide a home for visitors from which to sample the island’s many local delicacies, meet the wildlife, and marvel at the striking scenery. Tasmania has been Australia’s best-kept secret for a long time – plan a trip with The Luxury Travel Agency before the secret is out!

4) Kangaroo Island. As the name implies, wildlife is the name of the game here on Australia’s third-largest island, a mere 30-minute flight from Adelaide. Often referred to as, “A Zoo without Fences”, this place is an animal lover’s dream. You’ll find families of koalas lounging in the eucalyptus trees, packs of sea lions frolicking on the white sandy beaches, and of course herds of kangaroos bouncing all across the island. While the recent fires have dealt a setback to Kangaroo Island, recovery is well underway, and visitors can expect an experience with the natural world like nothing they’ve ever experienced before!

These four must-see destinations are only the beginning of the conversation when it comes to Australia, but from our perspective at The Luxury Travel Agency, they make for a heck of a starting point. Contact us today to make your Down Under dreams a reality!

Vietnam: Asia’s Next Big Thing in Travel

While the Vietnam of recent past was fraught with war and resistance against colonial forces, the nation today has seen rapid growth and globalization take root, as Vietnam taps into its spectacular cultural and culinary heritage along with its abundant natural resources. Although its neighbours Thailand and Indonesia get a larger share of the travel spotlight, it’s only a matter of time before Vietnam joins their ranks as a premier destination; it might be Asia’s best-kept secret (but not for long!)

Below, are a few of The Luxury Travel Agency’s favourite reasons to visit Vietnam:

1) The Food. Any conversation about Vietnam starts with the cuisine. Very few other nations can match their combination of health and taste; a “five-element” focus ensures that countless dishes are cooked with striking balance. Pho noodle soup is their most famous export, but this is only one of a staggering number of similar offerings that highlight the best of their respective regions. Banh Mi sandwiches, with bread inspired by the French style, can be found on every corner. The diversity of dishes, their ultra-fresh and healthy preparation, and the fun of exploring all your options through winding street markets come together to make Vietnamese food one of the world’s absolute best cuisines.

2) The Coast. Vietnam is blessed with over 3,200 kms of coastline stretching all the way down the eastern and southern edges of the country, providing travelers with a nearly endless supply of options to explore. In the north, world-famous Ha Long Bay enchants with its dreamlike maze of limestone cliffs. The central regions of Da Nang and Hoi An are home to huge swaths of beach that stretch for miles. And Vietnam’s southern islands, such as Phu Quoc, dazzle visitors with powder-soft sand that can match the quality of anything the rest of the world can offer.

3) The Mountains. On the western edge of Vietnam, away from the sea, rise clusters of stunning green hills and towering mountain peaks. In some areas, hill-tribes continue to live in villages as they have for generations, planting rice in jaw-dropping terraced fields that stretch as far as the eye can see. The Central Highlands region surrounding Da Lat is quite popular, but The Luxury Travel Agency puts the northern mountain town of Sa Pa on any must-see list. Trekking and motorbike riding through these hills, perched high above the green rice terraces in the valley, is an exercise in wondrous views and internal peace.

4) The Coffee. Vietnamese Coffee has established a global reputation, and upon your first sip, the reasons are clear. Strong, sweet, and best over ice, this drink is an integral cog in Vietnamese daily life. Cafés are everywhere (in fact, the Vietnamese word for coffee is ca phe), and everyone has their favourite. While the coffee itself packs a punch, it’s rarely enjoyed on the run; Vietnamese culture encourages a slow appreciation of their coffee (the slow-drip process certainly plays a role). In the capital city of Hanoi, “egg coffee” is a must – trust us, it’s much better than it sounds!

5) The Value. As a country undergoing sweeping changes in development and modernization, the strength of the Vietnamese currency (dong) is still quite low. Huge plates of delicious fried rice or noodles often go for $1 or $2 USD, and custom-tailored suits of quality can be had for $100. This means that you can relax at a sensational five-star hotel for a third of the price of the same property in Japan or Australia. Of course, prices will only go up as Vietnam gains more international renown – the time to go is now!

Vietnam holds a special place in our hearts at The Luxury Travel Agency – let us introduce you to this incredible land!

5 Reasons for Making New Zealand Your Next Adventure

This South Pacific island nation may be small in size, but its potential for lifelong travel memories is larger than most! Here are just five of the many reasons The Luxury Travel Agency recommends New Zealand for your next adventure abroad:

1) Milford Sound. If you don’t know, now you know. Hailed by many as the “Eighth Wonder of the World”, Milford Sound is a fiord situated on the southwestern coast of New Zealand. A series of towering forested peaks drop straight into the ocean, while waterfalls tumble from dizzying heights. Due to the region’s terrain, the drive from nearby Queenstown takes nearly 4 hours; the only way to visit in style is by helicopter, with expert pilots that bring you eye-to-eye with the mountaintops. You can even land on an alpine glacier or a Pacific coast beach…or both! This experience is simply a must when visiting New Zealand – your photo albums will thank you.

2) Waiheke Island. New Zealand’s best-kept secret – among visitors, at least – is Waiheke Island. A mere 40-minute ferry ride from downtown Auckland, Waiheke is the most populated island in the surrounding Hauraki Gulf. Here, the pace of life is slower than the mainland’s; a sign by the ferry docks reads, “Slow Down, You’re Here”. And what a place to be: the sun-kissed island is home to local growers of all description, from wine to olive oil and even honey, all carefully nurtured by dedicated artisans. There are coasts to kayak, beaches to stroll, and seaside restaurants to enjoy the freshest of meals at while watching the sun set over the Gulf; what more does one need for a perfect day?

3) Thrills Galore. New Zealand is a country known not just for its outdoors, but for the fun in getting out and exploring them. Queenstown, on the country’s South Island, is billed as the “Adventure Capital of the World” – and it’s a well-earned title. If it gets your blood pumping and your adrenaline rushing, you can find it here. The Kawarau Bridge Bungy was the first commercial bungy jumping operation in the world, and it delivers heart-stopping excitement to this day (as this author can personally attest). Jet boats rip up and down surrounding rivers at speeds of up to 90 km/h, as you come mere inches from the towering canyon walls. Prefer ziplining? Head up the gondola in the town center and zoom down on a series of ultra-scenic cables. Off-roading more your thing? The Luxury Travel Agency can put you in a top-end 4WD Buggy – you’ll never have more fun exploring! If you consider yourself a thrill-seeker, this is simply a destination you cannot afford to miss.

4) Lord of the Rings. Millions worldwide have adored the books, watched the movies, and marveled at the vast landscapes of Middle Earth; but what if you could go there yourself? As the primary filming location for both the LOTR and The Hobbit trilogies, New Zealand offers visitors the opportunity to place themselves exactly where their favourite characters once stood. Our Local Partners will take you by off-road buggy through fields where battles raged, and across rivers forded by the story’s heroes. You can even tour through Hobbiton, the set for The Shire where the Hobbit houses can still be explored!

5) Freshest of Food. How could we do a travel post and not mention cuisine? New Zealand is renowned for the freshness of its food, most of which comes from local sources; its geographic position requires it. Guests at one of the many fantastic lodges might enjoy lamb and beef that was raised directly on the property itself, or sample seafood caught earlier that day just off the coast. Wine-growing regions dot the country, many of them world-famous for their outstanding quality. Here, a meal is not just a meal, but a story of the land, the ocean, and how they’ve provided for New Zealanders for generations.

This is only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to New Zealand’s charms – the only way to know them all is to see for yourself. One of The Luxury Travel Agency’s favourite destinations; let us plan the adventure of a lifetime for you!

Around The World In 2 Hours

While sitting in The Luxury Travel Agency office in Toronto, my colleagues and I travelled around the world in only two hours.

If you are wondering how this is possible, the answer is simple. Representatives from eight different Park Hyatt hotels came to The Luxury Travel Agency and led us on a journey around the world.

First stop? Sunny Buenos Aires in Argentina. Park Hyatt Buenos Aires is located partially in an old palace offering a vibrant, cosmopolitan, and charming atmosphere. With an abundance of art, culinary options, and world-class service. Mixing contemporary and classic design with Latin flair, Park Hyatt Buenos Aires is the ultimate chic hotel.

Next, we travelled to the sunshine-filled shores of St. Kitts. Park Hyatt St. Kitts offers its guests the opportunity to unplug and reconnect with ultimate privacy. Nestled between lush rolling hills and beautiful ocean views, Park Hyatt St. Kitts has something for every member of the family to enjoy.

From the beach, we travelled to the historical city of Vienna. Park Hyatt Vienna, built inside a 100-year-old bank, is located in the golden quarter. History seeps out of every vestibule; however, it is not a dark and dreary place. Park Hyatt Vienna is fresh, modern, and cozy.

From Vienna to Zurich, Europe’s best-kept secret. The only luxury hotel in Zurich, the Park Hyatt Zurich, stands above the rest. With an extensive art collection, rooms and suites designed to be understatedly sleek with classical/cultural touches, and amazingly beautiful personal amenities upon arrival.

From Zurich, we travelled to the city of lights, Paris! The hotel is located in an authentically Parisian neighbourhood, offering a peaceful and serene atmosphere. Fully renovated in 2019, the design of the hotel is contemporary with a residential homey feeling. The Park Hyatt Paris is quaint, modern, and authentic.

Leaving Europe behind, we travelled to the Middle East. Park Hyatt Doha in Qatar is an excellent choice for first-time travellers to the Middle East. Located in the old park of the city next to the marketplace, Park Hyatt Doha is a city-based cultural experience, close to museums, teaming with Islamic art, with modern and Arabic influences.

From the shores of the Middle East, it was time to travel closer to home. Park Hyatt Aviara is the ultimate resort, spa, and golf club. Aviara, ideally located, is currently undergoing a massive renovation. Boasting stunning views of the ocean, golf course, and lagoon Aviara is sure to please when it comes to all your family’s needs.

Lastly, we travelled to the big apple. New York. The Manhattan Sky Suite at Park Hyatt New York offers 360-degree panoramic views. It is the highest luxury suite in the city that has three bedrooms, 75,000 dollars’ worth in books, a helicopter pad, a butler and a chef—the ultimate luxury experience.

Six Senses Resorts and Spa Takes to the City in Singapore

Exciting news has spread across the Asian culture as Six Senses plans to open its first-ever city hotels. The Luxury Travel Agency is excited to announce that the largely regarded Six Senses Resorts and Spa which is well known for its quiet beach-front locations, has stepped up to the challenge of city hotels and is expected to have two locations opening soon in Singapore. Great excitement has stirred along with much curiosity as the resort brand brings its charm into the heart of Singapore, right in the middle of the hustle and bustle!

Both the hotels are located within very close distance of each other; the Duxton and the Maxwell. Both buildings hold a long story of history, despite the wonderful renovations Six Senses has given them.

The Maxwell Hotel, located on Maxwell Road was originally the location of a large nutmeg plantation a long time ago, but in later years when fourteen 3 and 4 story buildings were constructed along the stretch, times changed into a new era! The fourteen buildings were eventually connected into one 5large building in the later years, thus now appealing to Six Senses as a wonderful candidate. The Maxwell hotel building was selected by Six Senses for its historical appeal, its classical design and exquisite location. One may see for themselves in the photos, however, to truly experience the divine luxury of these new properties, a pampered visit is a must. The diverse characteristics of the buildings original character have been thoughtfully preserved and restored to their original shining glamour. The hotel now features over 120 spacious guestrooms and suites, an outdoor lap pool, champagne bar and lounge, whisky bar, board room and even club lounge.

The interior of the building and rooms will stun its future guests to the bone with the exquisite eye of none other than Jacques Garcia, a renowned French interior designer with an eye tailored to luxury and taste. The furnishings selected carefully reflect the era when the building was constructed but keeping in mind today’s taste for modern atmospherics.

Situated in Chinatown’s old quarter Tanjong Pagar, also regarded as Jinrickshaw Palace, one can now find Six Senses second new hotel! The Duxton, located just a moments distance of The Maxwell, holds a unique story of its own. In an area which long before used to hold dark secrets of drug use and illegal trade, has now become an area of light and open arms with The Duxton in the neighborhood. Visiting guests can experience local food right by the hotel, or of course, enjoy fine cuisine right in the hotels highly refined restaurant.

The Six Senses brought in Anouska Hempel; a visionary from London, to design the interior of the hotel. While still illuminating with Asian design, Anouska created a unique style which provides visiting guests with a luxurious and cultural experience unique to the location. One of Six Senses wonderful accomplishments with both their new additions, was their ability to rejuvenate both the buildings, whistle still maintaining their authentic Asian style, which is very vital as guests are not just visiting the hotel but experiencing the area’s culture even from the inside.

The Captivating Marvels of Cape Town, South Africa

Cape Town, South Africa has long been known as one of Africa’s most visited cities for quite some time now, but what is it about Cape Town that draws us in? Set on a peninsula wedged between the Atlantic and Indian Oceans with the stunning and iconic Table Mountain as its backdrop, the city of Cape Town sits in one of the worlds most spectacular settings.

However, the beauty is not restricted to the city, with visitors having the luxury of taking only a short drive out to some of the most gorgeous white sandy beaches. The city is also well recognized for its harbor, biodiversity, good weather year-round, beaches and various landmarks. In fact, back in June 2010 the city was a host to the World Cup games.

The best time to visit Cape Town for a beach holiday is December through April, where you can really take advantage of South Africa’s world class beaches and divine scenery. However, if you are looking for somewhere on the map to conquer your latest and greatest adventure, Cape Town in April through June is the next spot to hit! With the city’s vast biodiversity, hiking is a highly recommended activity with days of crisp and clear air.

If hiking and beaches don’t scratch your itch, you can also go whale watching in July through September when the whales migrate in, and the wild flowers bloom along the coastline as the weather warms up.

Cape Town will appeal to nearly anyone who’s in the mood for a great trip away. Whether it be for a romantic honeymooner striving for the exquisite accommodations and idyllic views, families with children who can share the white beaches with penguins, and of course the adventure seekers will absolutely relish at the chance to discover the secrets of Table Mountain, which just so happens to be one of the 7 Natural Wonders of the World!

Let The Luxury Travel Agency set you up in one of our hand selected properties including The Silo Hotel, the Taj Cape Town, One & Only and more, so you can enjoy one of South Africa’s most magnificent locations in luxury comfort, grace and style. We promise you that after your first visit to Cape Town with The Luxury Travel Agency, you’ll be hungry to return before your tan even has the time to fade.
