Located in the bay of Portofino in the city of Genoa, the Belmond Hotel Splendido is one of the town’s prize possessions. This hotel is for very exclusive guests even welcoming famous guests, including Prince Grace of Monaco, Sir Winston Churchill, and Humphrey Bogart.

This hotel possesses expansive terraces, lush gardens, and incredible views. This hotel’s views might even be familiar because every year pictures of guests enjoying the signature breakfast on the lushes private balcony go viral.

The Splendido has recently gone through some renovations which include three new balconies where visitors can enjoy their extravagant morning breakfasts. The hotel also recently transformed its meeting rooms into three brand new exclusive suites. Each suite will have parquet floors, antique chandeliers, plush velvet sofas, whimsical hand-painted walls, and sweeping views of the Bay of Portofino.

The renovations were done by Eric Egan, an interior designer who is known for some of Europe’s most important properties, including the Hotel Grand Bretagne in Athens, the Gritti Palace in Venice, and Badrutt’s Palace in St. Moritz.

The Splendido has a great history and has its own style, so Egan thought it would be best to “reflect the essence of the hotel”. Egan and Granato, a young Florentine artist, created murals for the hotel inspired by Splendido’s main building which dates all the way back to the 16th Century. The rest of the décor in the suites were similarly inspired, with chandeliers hanging in each room repurposed from the hotel’s ballroom. There main goal was to keep the classic look of the hotel in the brand-new suites, and they have done just that. The suites appear like they’ve been a part of the hotel since 1902.

Egan has even more plans for the year. He’s planning to renovate ten more rooms at the Splendido. Each of Egan’s choices in renovating are carefully considered and he has the background to prove he’s experienced.

The Spledido does not only have beautiful views, luxurious suites and private balconies to enjoy breakfast, but it has a rich history.
